The Original Farmers Market – Meet Me at Third and Fairfax
The Original Farmers Market – Meet Me at Third and Fairfax. As the tag line says, the Original Farmers Market is located at the corner of Fairfax Avenue and 3rd Street in an area known as the Fairfax Distirct in Los Angeles, California. Itopened in July 1934 and is a food court with many different vendors and produce markets. It’s considered a landmark in Los Angeles and is frequented by tourists.
The original of the market began in 1880 with a dairy farm. The market got started when a few farmers nearby began parking their trucks on the land to sell fresh produce to local residents. The cost to rent the space was just 50 cents for the day.
When CBS Television City opened next door in 1952, the Original Farmers Market provided employees and visitors with a convenient place to shop and eat. CBS produces many shows at Television City, including “The Price is Right,” “The Young and the Restless,” and “The Bold and the Beautiful” to mention a few.
The Groove, a retail and entertainment complex that opened in 2002 sits at the lot right next door, and to most it is a continuation of the Original Famers Market. In fact, the site the The Grove sits on used to be an orchard and nursery, last remnants of the dairy farm that once was in existence on the property.
If you are ever in Los Angeles, pay a visit to the iconic and historic Original Farmers Market, and be sure to try some of the great and varied food from the vendors there.
